Equivalency

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING AECEO EQUIVALENCY SERVICES PLEASE READ
March 17, 2010 Notice

Why Apply for Equivalency?

Ontario Legislation regulating early learning and child care programs and Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) differ from other legislations and training programs both within and outside of Canada.

Early childhood education, primary education, or related studies diploma/degree credentials are not necessarily transferable from one jurisdiction to another for employment purposes. Individuals should contact provincial or territorial licensing or regulator bodies for eligibility prior to seeking employment.

In Ontario, the Ministry of Children and Youth Services (MCYS), which administers the Day Nurseries Act (DNA) and its Regulations, requires one educator in each licensed early learning and child care room and supervisors of licensed early learning and child care programs to hold a recognized Ontario Early Childhood Education Diploma or equivalent as determined by the College of Early Childhood Educators.

The Early Childhood Educators Act, 2007, which established the College of Early Childhood Educators, requires all individuals who use the professional title of “Early Childhood Educator” or “Registered Early Childhood Educator”, and work within the scope of practice defined in the Act, to become registered members of the College of Early Childhood Educators.

The AECEO and L’AFESEO Letter of Equivalency Certificates are recognized by the College of Early Childhood Educators as meeting the educational qualification component of the application process for membership in the College.
